Tuesday things

I've got a full day ahead, but the good news is that the London jet lag means I'm up early in the mornings! Of course, I've been going to bed around 7 pm, so that's not sustainable either. ;-) I'm an early bird as is, but the jet lag makes it hard to stay awake until my normal 9 pm bed time.

I tried out a free Pilates class yesterday & really liked it, but the cost was absolutely eye watering. I'm going to see if I can find an alternative (the Y, maybe?) that provides most of the benefit at a much lower cost. I want to focus on adding in strength & core workouts (yoga, Pilates) in 2026 to help with some of my back & hip pain, so maybe the Y would be an option as the one near me has both. I need to call & see what they offer & their monthly cost.

M forgot to pick up the stuffed peppers from Costco, so I'm back to the drawing board for dinner tonight. I'm heading to a workout class this afternoon, so it will have to be something easy. I'm thinking meatballs. Sam & I will have them over pasta, but M will likely just have them on the side.

Things I want to do today:

  • Continue working on tracking down the drop in our solar production
  • Call the Y for pricing & schedules
  • Get the library app hooked up to my kindle
  • Revise menu plan
  • Workout class
  • Update my January workout numbers
  • Follow up on summer vacation plans
  • Go for a walk. My 12k step target is a ways off after my work trip, and I want to boost that back up
What about you? Hope everyone is staying warm! Nick reports that it's been very cold in Boulder!

  1. I cannot tell you how happy I am to be in my home after three days at the hospital! I am taking it easy today, like a true day off! I assessed what I have to eat and find I can skip the grocery store for another couple of days. Like you, I would like to find a low cost way to get some exercise in without breaking the bank. Might walk today after I bundle up well!

    1. That is a lot, Gina! Did you have to stay due to the weather? You deserve a lovely day off! I hope you get a chance to totally relax and get some exercise. Enjoy your day. - HP

  2. Hello! Were you call the Y, ask about specials and if they have any upcoming. Our Y has regular deals/specials throughout the year-no joining fee, reduced fees for the first 3 mos, pay for the year and get a deal.

    1. Ours has one, but I need to join by the end of January, which doesn't make sense, as we will be out through the latter half of February. So, I will likely just try to sign up when I join, but that's a good idea. - HP

  4. Our Y is lovely but rates very geared towards families or past age 65. The hours are limited for the pool too because of swim lessons. I hope yours works for you.

    1. We joined briefly when the boys were little, but then COVID hit, so we only got in a month or so of usage. I'll be curious to see what's offered near me. _ HP

  5. We are warming up slightly here on the prairies of Canada, but with the warm up it will begin to snow a bit. Wish we had a Y here, but no luck and our fitness places charge an arm and a leg to join.

    God bless.

    1. I think a gym, if you use it, can make a big difference. I also like the social element. - HP

  6. I ha e been walking up and down three flights of stairs at the courthouse for ten extra min in the morning. The problem is that it is a 1950’s building with “those” type of steep not wide enough steps but I go slow so I don’t trip. I usually use them instead of the elevator anyways just to go to court but I figure a few extra minutes, if I am careful, would be good for the ole heart. Of course falling down a flight of stairs would be unproductive… lol. I am trying to build more steps into my daily routines. I also walked in place at my house bc of the weather. The closest Y or Planet Fitness is an hour and a half from me. Maybe YouTube has some videos or websites like Denise Austin that I could use from my phone? Hmmm, I will have to check it out. Come to think of it, I think our healthcare plan may provide free exercise classes on line I can access from my phone!!! I will have to check. Maybe yours does also? Cindy in the South

    1. I will check to see what my health care plan offers, but I think you're right. I'm very motivated by a class or someone showing me how to do workouts, so I prefer in person, but those would definitely work in a pinch! - HP

  7. I do planet fitness and workouts provided by an ex trainer from our gym! does your work provide anything that could cover the gym membership? i've seen folks say holidays like thanksgiving and christmas is a good time to sign up for things like pilates!

    1. My gym offers a $480 stipend that I can use on anything health & wellness related. I'm planning on using mine for massages throughout the year, as that's another one of my health & wellness goals, as it really helps temporarily with my back pain! - HP

    2. Oh yes that is a good amount but massage will use it all up - which at least is one less thing to pay for! Sounds like the Y could be your solution once you come back next month indeed!
