What about you? What are you hoping to accomplish in November?
Other than working on another degree, a part time teaching gig, and civic involvement, I have been a SAHM since…forever. Everyone is different, but when I first left the workplace, the lack of structure in the daily routine was almost overwhelming. For me, for us, structure is important for ALL aspects of our well being. The rub is, building structure is harder than it seems. I actually mourned leaving the workplace, and part of that was due to the lack of order of the days. (But I was too physically busy to recognize that until the fourth kid was born). Among other things, I learned that I could say, simply, and with no guilt, “No thank you, I am unavailable” even though it translated into “that’s bath and bedtime, I can’t miss that, because I need the post bedtime downtime, avec wine, perhaps, to be able to face my next day.” With one starting school, structure became more apparent to the outside eye. Now, they’re (kinda’ sorta’) flying the nest, and I am sensing that the structure needs a remodel again! And yeah, I get it, I am SO FORTUNATE to have the choice to stay home. That doesn’t mean my time isn’t valuable , and not worthy of careful spending, especially by myself! All this to say, let me know what works for you, and have a great November! (Meg B.)
ReplyDeleteGosh, it doesn't seem like winter break should be upon us, but it will be here before we know it! I hope Sam is enjoying college! And yay for Nick finalizing his applications. I was just reading the comment you left me earlier and wanted to say that I hope you and your husband enjoy your night out! That's actually a great idea to spend Halloween at a restaurant that won't be busy!
