Unfortunately, the cleats I'd purchased for Sam didn't arrive before the old cleats fell apart & the duct tape wouldn't hold. This means that I had to go & buy another pair of cleats from an "in person" store. I don't want to talk about how much I had to pay for the new cleats. We typically buy the medium range cleats, as teen boys grow very quickly. I tried 14 different pair at Dick's Sporting Goods, and they had none of the medium price range in his size. I guess COVID availability & that he wears a 10.5 means they are hard to find. I also tried Big Five Sporting Goods, but the same problem. In the end, Sam has incredibly nice cleats that he describes as "the most comfortable cleats I've ever worn". So, let's hope they hold up for at least a full season of double soccer - high school & club.
RIP, old cleats.
- Juice oranges. We had to pick a bunch more, as the oranges were falling in the pool & clogging the filter.
- Shred cabbage/carrots for coleslaw
- Make a Blue Apron dinner. M is grilling chicken, but I need a prepped dinner for Tuesday, when things are schedule crazy here
- Plan the schedule for the week
- Sort out potential soccer carpool. I didn't think I could make carpooling work, but both parents of a friend are vaccinated!
- Work out
- Have Sam wrap gifts for his girlfriend
- Nick has tennis & online math tutoring
- Clean the house
- Laundry
- Adjust work schedule for the week
It is so hard to get kids' shoes and clothes to last. Hopefully his new soccer cleats last a long time. This morning we took the kids to a local maple syrup farm that was doing an open house, so they could see how they make maple syrup. It is owned by the family of the boys' kindergarten teacher. I am trying to be more supportive of locally owned places. That was fun. Now we are home and I really should get some things done to set up for this week, but I am exhausted today so not sure what will really get done. Hope you have a productive Sunday!
ReplyDeleteLove the idea of going to a local maple syrup farm - how fun!
DeleteI remember spending a fortune on track cleats once for my son-he had just been brought up to varsity form the middle school (He was a running phenom then), and the basic running shoes were not going to make it. Of course being only 14, that was at least one if not two a year, though we caught on to better places to buy after the first sticker shock pair! Good luck with those oranges-I blessing and a curse I'm sure to have that fresh fruit at home.
ReplyDeleteIt can be really hard to find them, and at time, price is almost a non-factor. We love having the oranges, but it would be great if they were on my schedule, instead of vice versa! Nature waits for no one.
DeleteHah! I feel your pain! It seems pointe shoes broke, and tap shoes were always outgrown right before the spring recital, and then, of course, they didn't fit when the season resumed in fall. In any case, after almost a full week of beautiful weather, it's blustery and gray today. Fortunately, I took advantage of the nice weather, and cleaned and mulched my flower beds earlier in the week! Today, due to the clock change, youngest and I are getting a slow start to the day. DH is getting new tires for our vehicle. I plan on working on indoor projects, like piecing a monthly quilt block, and organizing a drawer or two. In anticipation of the weather changed, we grilled steaks last night. That means tonight's dinner is a simple baked chicken with barbecue sauce, homemade rolls, and homemade coleslaw. I've yet to decide if I'm making my own barbecue sauce, or resorting to one of the lurking bottles in my pantry.
ReplyDeleteWe bought really nice cleats just before COVID. Then, no soccer. By the time soccer restarted, the nice cleats no longer fit. I did sell one pair on eBay, as they'd been worn once, so I made some other parent out their happy. Your dinner sounds delicious, and I'm also making homemade coleslaw!
DeleteWe have noticed the same thing...being exhausted after running errands since Covid. We must just be out of our routine, but it is very tiring now.
ReplyDeleteThat stinks that you had to buy new cleats before the others came.
Right - I'm totally out or practice of my "old life"! :-)
DeleteYour son's comment "the most comfortable cleats I've ever worn" shows that nickel and dime-ing is a self-defeating policy. Spending more on good quality, whether clothes or foodstuffs, pays off every time and brings comfort and pleasure to life. Roderick
ReplyDeleteWe'll agree to disagree. I don't buy cheap shoes for the kids, ever. But, they aren't professional soccer players & don't need the top of the line shoes. When their feet stop growing, sure, you can invest in nicer shoes. Until then, or they are paying themselves, we'll continue to buy the middle of the road, and or look for great deals on the higher end shoes.
DeleteKids feet(and the rest of them)are always growing....and boys will continue to grow into their 20's so have fun with that! lol
ReplyDeleteToday is a clean my desk and work on my macrame(aka genealogy). I broke a tooth last night so I'm on a soft food diet until I can get into see the dentist. oh joy!
According to the previous commenter, I'm being a fool not buying high end cleats all of the time. ;-) They are growing fast right now, so we're lucky if cleats last for a full season. That's a big win, in my house.
DeleteHope you are able to get into the dentist quickly - that sounds like no fun at all!
Did you know that 10.5 is the most common size for men's foot ware? I know as Hubs is a 10.5, the fates and the common size were against you my friend.
ReplyDeleteI did not know! That makes sense.
DeleteTap and ballet shoes had to be bought about 3 time per year for the girls because they outgrew them! However, shoes for my son were torn up before he wore them out of outgrew them. And, I did not buy cheap shoes at all.
ReplyDeleteSounds right. We always guess whether the kids will tear holes in their shoes before they outgrow them. These days it's a toss up. Either way, we're buying shoes 2-3 times/year.
DeleteI had three boys and a girl. I generally bought lower end stuff because they would out grow them quickly and what one activity, one kid liked to do, the other kids would not like, so passing athletic shoes down was not happening. I could pass even lower end clothes down, just not shoes. Cindy in the South
ReplyDeleteYeah, I usually go for mid range shoes, but look for sales. And, we tend to buy shoes at the Nike outlet in Oregon, which is well stocked & no sales tax, for extra bonus. If they run out between our twice/year stops, it's a lot more expensive.
DeleteWe did not do soccer here, but all of my sons played baseball from the time they were 5 years old. Our rule of thumb was to buy inexpensive (middle of the road but always on sale) cleats because they outgrew them so quickly. We did buy them each a really good glove but not until they were old enough that they could use them forever.
ReplyDeleteThat's been our philosophy to date. They grow quickly! I don't want them wearing uncomfortable ill fitting shoes, but there's a big line between those that fit & those denied for the truly highest end players. When they have their own income & their feet stop growing, they can decide if they want those. :-)
