Curve balls

I received a copy of my blood results yesterday, & they confirm what I've suspected for the past few weeks. I will see a rheumatologist on Wednesday for the official news, but I tested positive for both ANA (indicating an autoimmune disease) and Anti-DSNA, which appears to be very specific for lupus.

It's certainly shaken my world, to say the least. What seemed like the flu, has turned into a six week long ordeal ending in me receiving news that is already changing my life. I'm doing my best to come to terms with what my new life will look like, and embracing all of the changes that I need to make to stay healthy. More sleep, less stress, likely no distance running. . . So, pretty much a shake up of everything I'm currently doing. ;-)

I'm lucky to have a sunny & relaxing weekend with my boys, & I'm feeling the best I've felt since everything began. M is in Vancouver at his cousin's 50th birthday party, so I'm doing my best to take it easy & relax with my little guys.

We've already had a pretty fabulous day. .. lunch at a local burger joint, some beach volleyball, & playing in the sand.

The weather is supposed to be gorgeous for the next few days, so I plan to enjoy it!

What are you up to this weekend?

  1. Sorry to hear about your diagnosis but at least you know what you are dealing with now. Seems many are going through life changes with their health lately so I hear ya! ;-)

Gotta take care of your health cuz without it, the rest in life can't be enjoyed.

    1. Yes, what is up with all of the bad health news around here lately?!

You are so correct - my big realization is that I'm willing to cut anything right now (my job I've had for 15 years, a hobby that I enjoy more than anything, whatever) to focus on being healthy & to have enough energy to enjoy the kids.

  6. The worst part is the not knowing, so now you can deal with it. When I was diagnosed with cancer, it was the testing, including a bone biopsy that was the worst. Still changes such a yours are at first a shock, then you start figuring out with your doctor, what to do. Best thoughts to you.

    1. Thank you. It's so, so nice to have a place to talk about this. Sometimes it's hard to continually discuss with your family. It's nice to have a logical sounding board. :-)
