I'm going to channel my inner Kim (at Out My Window) & make a list today. Things are wild here, with work. I know the timing of this role could never have happened unless we had kids of independent ages. M is working in the city, with a long commute. I have lots of travel, super early mornings that would prevent me from any school drop offs, etc. And, just overall volume of work on both sides is intense.
Here's what I need to get done today:
- Meetings start at 6 am, which is always a treat ;-)
- Get 3 items done off of my 90 day work plan
- Figure out why I can't add any Japanese colleagues to expense report. This is blocking me from getting it submitted.
- Sort out schedule for next week, including impromptu overnight trip to San Diego, for work.
- Talk to Sam about: his schedule for the upcoming weeks, get access to college billing, and make a final decision about family weekend & if he can go
- Workout class. I felt terrible yesterday after my flu shot, so didn't work out. Not getting in consistent cardio leaves me feeling like a slug, so it's a must do today.
- Talk to the accountant about my IRS "fun"
- I've hired a cleaning service & they come every other week. Today is the day. Juggle rooms, so I can stay on calls & stay out of their way. This is money well spent for this season of my life.
- Change flights for next weekend, to arrive earlier.
If I get all of that done, I will be incredibly thrilled.
Didn’t realize M had gotten a new job! Congratulations! That is wonderful! Sounds like your life is very hectic! Cindy in the South
ReplyDeleteYes, he got a few offers, and went for a six month consulting role at an AI company, to get some additional skills he thinks will help with future roles. He loves everything but the commute! - HP
DeleteThis job came at the right time with all the demands on your time! How is Sam feeling about being at home for school?
ReplyDeleteHe seems pretty content about it, and he needs a bit of a nudge to expand his social circle. He works quite a bit (transitioned to a new job when the summer job ended), which is great, but we also want him to have time to do an intramural sports, or join a college club, and get a bit more of that experience. His GF is local, and he has several friends at the same local school, so he definitely has people to see, but we want to make sure he's having a more complete experience. - HP
DeleteSo smart to get a cleaning service. Wish I could afford one, but I have Sissie!
ReplyDeleteMy cleaners do an "okay" job, which is why I tend to drop the service over time, but for now, mostly clean & not quite as deeply cleaned as I would like is a lot better than the nothing I'd be doing. It's not dirty. It's tidy. Just, not quite as robust of a cleaning as I'd do myself, if I had the time. Send your sister here! ;-) - HP
DeleteThere's times in life for different chaos. You raised wonderful sons so now, you get to concentrate on this next phase of chaos.
ReplyDeleteThis is definitely the next level of chaos. I always asked myself what I'd do with all of the free time when I was an empty nesters. More the fool, I suppose. Should have known the time would fill itself with something! - HP
DeleteI have 47 items left on my to do list to get done by end of Oct.
ReplyDeleteThat is a lot! Good luck. - HP
DeleteI think hiring out your cleaning is a brilliant idea. There are expenses that are worth every penny and this sounds like one you really need.
ReplyDeleteI would hate to begin my workday at 6!
I'm way more of a morning person, so the late meeting with all three timezones (10-11 pm my time) just about killed me. Especially because I had a 6 am call on both sides the day before & after. Yuck. The late calls are rare, at least. I'm super fine with the cleaning service. It's serving us at the moment, and we need it. Although, the house definitely stays cleaner without Nick & his rotation of his friends coming over. But, we still miss the noise & fun! - HP
DeleteI hope you get loads done today, and figure out why you can't add those people to the expense report.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Figured out the expense report! It makes no sense, but I was able to get it completed, so that's really all I care about. - HP
DeleteYes, hiring out cleaning is a good decision and well worth the money!
ReplyDeleteIt really is well worth the money at this phase of life. - HP
Delete. When husband retired and we had three in diapers and I was working on another degree, we had a weekly housecleaner who would come on Fridays when I didn’t have class. She would work from 8-4, doing everything and anything we asked…laundry, return library books, grocery shopping…she even made a few meals. Worth.. Every. Penny.
ReplyDelete-Meg B.
Oooh, that sounds like a fabulous amount of support. Like you said, worth every penny, and probably less than a bunch of meals out. - HP
