It's Friday again! Here's how we did.
Saving on things we buy
- I had to pick up a prescription at Rite Aid, and had $2 of rewards expiring. The store is pretty much empty, but I did find one of my preferred protein bars. It was $1.49 after rewards, but I also used an iBotta offer for $1.25, making the very expensive bar $.24. I'll take it!
- I used CVS rewards, coupons & some iBotta offers to similarly pick up some treats to make Easter bags for the boys for $14 or so.
Earning money
- Continued to apply for jobs
- Cashed in $20 of survey money
Avoiding spending
- I stocked up on lunch items, so I would avoid the temptation of eating out
- I cancelled Sam's gym membership, which was on a pause that was expiring
- In an attempt to avoid wasting the United credits, I pre-booked Nick's Thanksgiving & Christmas flights from college. While we may need to shift the dates/flights slightly, getting them on the books means I won't waste the credits. Flying home for Thanksgiving is eye wateringly expensive, so I'm glad to have the credits to use!
Eating what we have
- Finished off spaghetti & meatballs + garlic bread leftovers
- Used the last of the taco meat to make a taco salad
- Made chicken shawarma for dinner, which used up a lot of odds & ends, including a package of naan bread from the freezer
For others
- Reached out to two friends who have suffered family losses recently
- Met with another student I'm mentoring
What about you? Any wins to share?
No wins per se. Family had been good about our spending freeze/boycott though. I removed all cc’s from Amazon which makes it harder to order something. I also deleted almost all streaming subscriptions. I have scheduled on our refrigerator calendar Costco trips, so anything they feel they need can wait until then, if it’s not available at the two supermarkets I will use. Even then, there are companies whose products will not darken my doorway.
ReplyDeleteIn terms of helping others, I spent all day Wednesday with a friend who has young school age boys, helping her navigate some questions regarding public education. I walked her through the more salient points of the OSPI manual, and took her for a quick tour of our local library, all while trying not to sway her on the decision she must make. It was more a “if you choose option a, you are expected to do this, and they will provide this.” One of my kids even weighed in with his experience which was nice.

Smart to think ahead for the Thanksgiving break. I took will have 22 months of eye watering insurance premiums to keep my daughter into retirement plan but I won't jeopardize her access.
ReplyDeleteMy big win is that Aunty can hear and she is so happy!
ReplyDeleteThe only real frugal win I can think of was a pair of shoes for work that were brand new and very much cheaper from Ebay than Amazon or the show company's website. I am happily wearing said shoes on the job right now. (: I've eaten lunch out twice this week, and would like t whittle that down to once a week. I am slowing coming to terms with cooking for myself again.
ReplyDeleteGood deal on the protein bar! I found protein drinks for $1.19 each, so rather than pay the $3.50 price at the grocery store, I stocked up on those.
ReplyDeleteWell helping to take out the neighbor’s trees that were hanging over my roof was an eye watering expense but I suppose the saving is that those trees will not destroy my house during a storm. There are two other large neighbor trees that are further away but hopefully they don’t fall this way. . Cindy in the South
ReplyDeleteWell done.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Good deal on the protein bar. I stocked up on easy meals for this week to stop from eating out as we are full on in track season and it's tech week for the Spring Musical that my 2 oldest are in. ALso using found gift cards to pay for subs Friday night for Rebecca and I, and for pizza tomorrow for Ben's birthday with family.
