There were a few wins here & there this week, although we were primarily focused on other things.
Saving on things we buy
- I go through my credit card offers about every week or so, and click anything I think we might use. There's no harm in adding them, and they just expire if you don't use them. I ended up getting gas at a station we rarely use while out of town, so I earned an $.84 reward. Please don't be jealous of my big wins. ;-) That said, it's money I was spending anyway, and getting any amount was a nice bonus.
- I taught my first class this week! I get paid at the end of the session (10 weeks), but it's my first time "working" in a while.
- Worked on doing surveys (Prolific) here & there, making ~$25.
- Lots of interviews, interview prep & networking.
- Received $40 as part of a settlement.
Avoiding spending
- Disputed a $14 charge, and got that refunded back.
Eating what we have
- We don't often have much bread at the house, but ended up with a bunch for various reasons. I've been making the teens sandwiches for lunches, and also froze some. We also keep baguettes in the freezer for making garlic bread. We cut it into 1/3 chunks when we buy it, and then wrap & store it. It's the perfect size for garlic bread making for 1-2 people, and that way you don't have a bunch of leftovers.
- Blitzed some of the leftover bread to make bread crumbs for a delicious chicken parmesan
- Used up two frozen pizzas, which helped clear some space in our freezer!
- Picked a bunch of Meyer lemons off of our tree, as well as peppers & lettuce from our planters.
- Cut back a bunch of herbs from our garden, and dried them
For others
- Gave away additional fresh herbs to our neighbors.
- Filled out reports as part of my volunteering efforts.
What about you? Any wins for the week?
I do the offers too. You know, $10-15 over a year isn't much, but no one would toss in garbage can either. I got some clearance items on a few expensive items like keto pita bread. It's vegan also so nice to have when daughter is here. Toasted, tasted nice.
ReplyDeleteTwo birthdays, Easter and DD coming home early from college. The meals are the main expenses, as we really don’t do birthday gifts. But most of the meals will come from the freezer. Birthday Boy wants tuna casserole of all things, yay him, but also a red velvet cake which required me to pick up buttermilk and red food coloring. (Yeah, you can make it without food coloring, but then it’s not authentic. And don’t even *suggest* cream cheese frosting. Butter roux and butter roux only. It’s a birthday, after all!) DD ‘s change in ticket required a small fee. She also has to Uber to the airport even though there is public transport available. I understand why she takes the Uber, but really, it annoys me. I only subsidize Uber for the airport. If she needs to go somewhere during the semester, she can ride transit or pay for an Uber out of her allowance.
ReplyDeleteAs for avoiding spending, I am in a low spend year, with no end in sight. My be of the family hobbies is gardening, (not saying we are good at it) and our good friends offered us a barrel of rhubarb plants, which we gleefully accepted!
That’s about it! Enjoy your weekend!

With all the bills coming at me few things feel like a win, except I have been able to pay them so I guess....
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on teaching your first class! How neat! I made chicken parmesan this week after reading it on your list recently. It had been so long since I'd made it and it really hit the spot.
ReplyDeleteI cooked a big pot of dried pinto beans to use for bean tacos, beans and cornbread, etc. for quickly and easy meals. I went through all my food storage and was shocked to find I have 21 cans of tuna ( I eat a tuna fish sandwich on Fridays with pickles) so I have 21 weeks of tuna fish sandwiches! I made tomato soup and cheese toast because it is a fav. I did eat the last of the Boars Head sliced roast beef for a sandwich at lunch. I am debating on buying more because it is my meat protein, if I eat meat. For someone who usually gets sick if they eat beef, it has never upset my stomach. Coleslaw has been an often served side this week as well as lots of grapes. Cindy in the South
ReplyDeleteThe only win I can think of was selling 166 of the old vinyl albums I was going to DONATE, and instead, made $180. Still, would have been happy about your .84 cent reward and $25 survey monies. Both are wins.
ReplyDeleteGood for you on getting your first class under your belt. I bet it went well. Really between the tax hit and the loss on our investments, nothing really feels like a win this week. However I baked two lovely loaves of bread today.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Love these kinds of posts! Wish I was your neighbor, so you could share some fresh herbs with me!
