A childless menu plan this week

We drop the boys off at summer camp today (they are very excited), so we'll be missing a few people around here for menu planning purposes. We will also take advantage of our child free state and enjoy a long weekend out of town. Here's the menu:

  • Sunday - M will grill tri tip, as well as chicken sausages. We'll likely just eat the tri tip tonight, along with coleslaw
  • Monday - chicken sausages + salad
  • Tuesday - leftover tri tip
  • Wednesday - meeting friends at a Greek restaurant
  • Thursday - we'll be out of town, and have plans to eat at a sushi restaurant
  • Friday - Out of town. Meeting a friend at a steak house
  • Saturday - Still out of town, planning to eat at an Italian restaurant
  • Sunday - we should be home around 4:00. We have a few freezer options, but are more likely to grab takeout, as the kids are out of town
It will be an unusual week for us, given all of the meals out!

What else is on the agenda for today?

  • Run
  • Yoga
  • Work on photobooks
  • I'm on the lookout for a piece of wood furniture (a freebie on Nextdoor, hopefully) that I can use to practice sanding & staining, before I attempt something at home. A lot of my neighbors give away scratched & damaged furniture, so it's just a matter of timing it correctly
  • Work on photo books
  • Update ebay, Facebook, Nextdoor listings. Post 5 more.
  • Weather dependent, make muffins. Maybe before it gets too hot
  • Have the boys call my parents
  • Drop off the boys at summer camp
All in all, it should be a great day. What about you? What are you hoping to accomplish today? Have you ever sanded & stained/refinished furniture?

  1. While driving near UAB, I saw a chair near a dumpster and did a U-turn. I jumped out, looked at the missing arm, got in the car and did another U-turn. Then, I realized we all have something wrong with us. So, I did another U-turn, got the chair in the back seat. I took a class at a junior college after I had a new arm made. I spent lots of time getting the finish on the arms the same. I sanded the whole thing in July heat, outdoors at the class. Then, I upholstered the car, only the seat and back. It is my favorite chair, looks-wise. Friends who have antique shops try to buy it from me.

    1. I love it! The chair sounds wonderful, and you sound like you know what you're doing with the furniture.

    1. Sam asked us to leave almost right away, and gave a hug/took a few pictures, so I'm thinking he was ready for the "alone" time. :-) Good luck with your podcast!

    1. They have gone a few times, & loved this place. It's near Santa Cruz, in a redwood forest, and it's just a gorgeous, rustic outdoor camp. Whenever I go there, I blown away by how lovely it is, and how much I'd like to go, to just relax & hang out.

  4. We have beautiful weather in Ontario and getting ready to change the water heater and finish the baseboards around the new flooring. We are doing parts of it as diy with friends and part professional help. We are not Reno people so it seems big. I have just sold a solid oak dresser that we bought used a few years ago, the buyer plan to refinish it. The Frugal Girl blog had good tips and posts on refinishing furniture. As for today there is more cleaning, weeding the flower bed and going to a nearby small lake to swim is on the agenda. My 11 year old boy will have his first outdoor day camp in two weeks, we are trying for sleepaway camp maybe for next year. How are your boys with the camp, are they in the same camp?

    1. That all sounds fabulous! I will check out the Frugal Girl - love her blog. My 12 year old has a friend going, and always wants a buddy to join. My 13 year old doesn't mind at all going alone, and will be in the "teen" group this year, which means sleeping in yurts (vs cabins), and a bunch of overnight trips (4 day backpacking trips, etc) & has no issues with making new friends along the way. My 12 year old would never go for that.

  5. I love to refinish furniture, but as I don't need any pieces I am not in the market to buy or find any.

    1. I've read/heard that it's reasonably straightforward, so hopefully I can test it & try it out. We have a nice Pottery Barn side table that has water damage (& matches our other furniture), so I'm hoping to experiment on other items before I test out refinishing this one.
