Fitness Monday

My steps were *very* low earlier in the week, but my 13 mile hike on Saturday & a hike on Sunday helped to average things out for the week. The commute plus a full day of calls makes it challenging to get in steps on some days. My eating was pretty good, although a bit higher on a couple of days. Overall, I'm pleased with the progress, and would love to lose a couple more pounds before Christmas.

Weight: 155.7 (up .2 lbs from my weigh in three weeks ago & 2.5 lbs from my lowest weight this year). Goal = 140.

Calories: average of 1537/day

Steps: 13,729/day

Workouts:

  • 50 minute elliptical
  • 25 minute elliptical
  • 13 mile hike
  • 6  mile hike
  • 2 workout classes (30 minutes run/row + 30 minutes strength)
  • 2 mile walk

Goals for the week:

  • Get in three strength classes & one hike
  • Sort out some sort of workout for Wednesday
  • Two long hikes (add bag with weight)
  • Drop calories to 1425/day
What about you? How did you do with your health & fitness goals last week?

  1. It has been gorgeous here in coastal S California- sunny and high 60's, low 70's, so very easy to get motivated to go out and walk. I averaged four miles a day, and am pleased with how I'm battling through the holiday party season. I have headed into the weekend at 108, and finished it at 110, for three weeks running now. The battle at this time of year is real!

Are you day hiking or backpacking thru New Zealand? It's on my list for 2027, but we would only do it by day hiking from lodge to lodge at this point. Not sure there's much backpacking in my future now that I'm in my 60's.

    1. Nice work on your walking & keeping the holidays in check! It is really challenging this time of year & requires much more effort & planning.

The way it works in NZ is you can either rent the backpacking huts (you provide your own bedding & food) or you can rent through Ultimate Hikes (only authorize provider, as they have the sole lease on the slightly nicer huts). So, we're doing the Ultimate Hikes version, which you are still backpacking and carrying in all of your gear, but at night, someone cooks food for you, you can shower, and bedding is provided. So, backpacking, but with a much lighter load than you'd normally need. They have generators, so there is some power until 10 pm, mostly for cooking (them) & drying your clothes. We splurged and did the single room, vs staying in the dorm style rooms. We have our own bathroom & everything. ;-) It's my 50th birthday one of the days & I'm a super light sleeper, so I wasn't so interested in bunking up with a bunch of strangers. LMK if you want more info, and I can certainly keep you posted afterwards as well. - HP

  2. I made myself go for a walk to day and I am glad I did. It gave me a little more pep to start moving my potted plants into the garage!

  3. I did the math and list 36 pounds in 2025, so roughly 3 pounds a month. I’ll take it.
