It's not always about frugality, and Saturday happenings

I tend to focus more on frugal wins on the blog, for obvious reasons, but not all of the choices we make have frugality top of mind.

I have an absolutely crazy few weeks, with a work trip to LA, a birthday dinner for M that we are hosting, out of town guests, more work, the last week of my Stanford class & my capstone project, finishing all of my performance reviews, & then a trip to Greece. As such, getting the house properly cleaned to host & entertain is lower on my priority list, so I am having our house deep cleaned next Monday when I'm back from LA. What a relief to give that task to someone else, so I can focus on all of the other many things grabbing my attention. I did promise myself that I could pay to have the house cleaned regularly when I went back to work. I did that for several months, and then when I decided I was only staying for a year, I opted to cancel the service & just clean on my own.

Anyway, that's my very non-frugal splurge for the month, and I'm looking forward to it.

Other happenings today:

  • I'm going to a combo strength/cardio class this morning, which will be nice to put me closer towards my goal of 3x/week for strength training
  • Finish packing for work trip
  • Get all of the Father's Day cards for my dad (myself & the boys) finished & mailed
  • Get M's cards all prepped (Father's Day & birthday)
  • Start organizing Greece items & determine if I need to buy any travel toiletries
  • Make a Costco list (for everyone else) for the week
  • I may also try to get in a walk, as I'm way behind on my step goals for the week
  • Clean the fridge
  • Laundry
What about you all? What's your most recent splurge, and what's on the agenda for today?

  1. I'll be at work today...but since I took two nights of on-call last week I bought a rug from Home Depot. Originally meant for the front room, I think it may go better in the den. In that case...I will buy another for the front room. I'm trying to shop smart (I guess) but I'm not being frugal. I feel like I am frugal in other ways!

    1. Sometimes shopping smarter is the option when you have things you want/need to replace. Well done on getting the on call shifts & earning some extra money. - HP

  2. Right now with the animals and so much needed in my house, I can't practically have a cleaner or even a one time deep clean. But, I plan to invest in one either after the things needing replacing have been done and I'm not battling animal mess or I downsize andvstart fresh. I think you made a great decision.

    1. I was really hoping they could come the day I fly back, so I'd walk into a freshly cleaned house, but oh well. I'll pick up a bit over the weekend & then why will clean on Monday, before our overnight guests arrive. Investing in a cleaner at certain times really does make sense, if you need help because of time, health, etc.. - HP
