I've grown spinach..from seed! If you knew how little skill I have at gardening, & my previous history, this would be more impressive. :-)
So far, we've been able to harvest some radishes (grown from seed), jalapenos (plant from last season, still hanging in there), lemons (a tree, that needs almost no work) & now the spinach is looking great. I've planted more radishes, as they seem hard for me to kill. ;-)
Other things from today:
- Went for a slow run today. My shoulder is still having some twinges, but overall I'm feeling much better. I kept it short & slow, but enjoyed the brief workout.
- Went to the grocery store for a few dinner items. M unknowingly used my tomatoes for an impromptu kebab dinner last night, so I needed to pick up more, and potatoes. Took advantage of a few iBotta & Fetch offers for other things, & saved $6 off of my purchase.
- Came home & made a triple batch of pico de gallo. It's enormous (12 tomatoes). I used up a lot of cilantro from the garden, and picked enough for the pico de gallo, as well as the curry I'm making tonight. Our jalapenos have been slow to recover after the chilly nights of winter, so the ones on the vine are pretty tiny. Used up six of those as well.
- Vacuumed
- Made the schedule for the week ahead
I still need to clean the kitchen, but I'll do that after I finish dinner. I need to go prep all of the veggies for the curry (broccoli, cauliflower, potatoes & carrots) & make a salad.
Hope you are enjoying your weekend! Please share what you are growing in your garden.
I'm impressed because I kill most plants too and I'm excited for you as well! So glad your shoulder is starting to feel better. Don't over do it. Enjoy the last of the weekend. :)
ReplyDeleteRight?! When you don't grow plants at all, it feels like a really big accomplishment.
DeleteI gave up pretending to be able to grow vegetables. I DO have some Romaine lettuce coming up, though. I also planted some Jack-Be-Little pumpkins under my bean poles. Other than that, I've planted flowers. I planted sunflower seeds in one of our raised beds, and have added more perennials to our front flower beds. My patio has annuals in pots--petunias, marigolds, and a pink-flowered black-eyed Susan vine. My front porch has red petunias in hanging baskets to attract hummingbirds. My rose bushes look good, and my Echinacea is coming back. I also see that some wildflowers I planted from a seed pack last year have re-seeded themselves. My north facing shade border has Foxglove, periwinkle, Astillbe, St. John's Wort and Bleeding Heart. I also have daylilies wherever I thought I needed more color. I also have poppies, Lupine, Salvia, Lavender, Rudbeckia, Shasta Daisies and Russian Sage. I don't have very orderly beds at all--my goals was to feed the bees!
ReplyDeleteFriend, you may think you're not a gardener (of veggies), but you are most definitely a flower gardener! SO impressed with what you are growing.
DeleteYour spinach looks healthy and hearty. Homemade pica de gallo is a favorite. I'd have to pass on the cilantro though .
ReplyDeleteI could add in the giant overgrown parsley instead, since we planted it thinking it was cilantro! (It was mislabeled.)
DeleteYour spinach looks amazing. This year we'll be growing basil, rosemary, broccoli, red cabbage, jalapenos, mesclun, spinach, onions, roma tomatoes, peas and pumpkins. About half of this lineup will be from seed.
ReplyDeleteAwesome! I planted so many as seeds, and struggled with everything but the spinach & radishes. Oh, and the basil has come up well, and the carrots look like they may hold on a bit.
