Frugal Friday + Dunkin Donuts Gift Card Giveaway

July continues to be a month of absolute craziness. I was in Sonoma wine tasting with friends this week, and used the condo accommodations I won at the school auction. It was a lot of fun, but the timing was challenging, wedged in right after my other vacation, my trip to Tokyo, and M's upcoming 50th birthday hurrah in Las Vegas. But, life is short (and the condo was only available for these particular dates).

Here are my frugal Friday wins for the week. (Note, it wasn't a particularly frugal week on whole, with eating out, wine, Ubers to wineries, etc.)

  1. Sold our TV stand through our local Facebook group for $30. Finally! I've had this listed for several months.
  2. Filled out some sort of tiny property tax exemption that every homeowner occupant (vs homeowners who rent out) qualify for in my county. It's a very, very small amount of the overall total, but should save around $80 annually. I'll take it!
  3. Stayed at a condo that I won in the school auction (sunk costs), & used that for our girls trip this year.
  4. The condo had a kitchen, so we brought breakfast stuff, to avoid eating at least one meal out.
  5. I have friends arriving this afternoon (her daughter is touring colleges in the area), & despite my overall schedule craziness & strong desire to order delivery, I'll be making dinner this evening. :-) I'm making a family favorite of tacos, chips with guacamole, & margaritas for the adults.
  6. Used our previous high school aged babysitter (she's now home from college for the summer) for after care this week, as camp ends at 3 pm each day. It was about $100 cheaper to have her pick up the kids & allow them to relax & swim at the house, etc vs having two kids in the hourly camp after care.
And, with that, on to the giveaway! I have a $10 Dunkin Donut gift card, and no local store near me. (I had to cash out expiring hotel points, and refused to let them just expire. The gift card was the only item I had enough points to purchase.) So, please leave me a comment between now & next Friday with one frugal thing you did this week, and I'll enter you into the drawing! The drawing will end at 5:00 pm PST next Friday (7/28), and I'll draw a comment randomly & email you if you are the winner. Please make sure you are logged in when you comment, so I can send you an email to get your contact info & send the gift card out through physical mail.

We sign papers to sell our Seattle house this afternoon! So excited to be making progress in the right direction. Home stretch, friends!

  2. Hey, those little wins are good and all add up. I bet the kids loved hanging with their old baby sitter at the pool rather than the extra hours at camp. don't count me in drawing-not sure where a DD is anywhere-I just seem to always have something to say.

  3. I continued earning Swagbucks to use for purchasing Christmas gifts and used up all sorts of odds and ends of toiletries and food rather than buying new. I'd love a Dunkin Donuts card.. it's my son-in-laws favorite! Thanks!

  4. I am in the process of moving. Frugal things I did: took a load of magazines into work for co-workers so I dont have to pay to dispose of them and someone else can enjoy them. I have been using up my sample stash instead of buying full sized products.

  5. We ate all our leftovers this week plus from food that was given to us. Big savings on the food budget. We love DD. There are three in our town. I would love to win a gift card.

  6. Congratulations on signing the paperwork - it never feels quite done until the signing happens! Frugal this week - well, while building a house, there is nothing frugal, but we did not eat out at all this week! Oh, I came in $2,000 under budget with lighting. WIN!

  7. I brought receipts back to Pier1 to get a refund for recently purchased chairs that were marked down an additional $10 each the day after I purchased them. Plus showed that one of the chairs arrived slightly damaged, receiving an additional credit of $20, so a total of $60 in refunds for about 5 minutes of effort.

  8. First: Congratulations on signing the paperwork for the house sale. Selling a home is such a pain, but it's glorious when it's finally done!

We had been talking about buying my husband a Kindle, but our youngest daughter gave him an older one she no longer uses (she bought herself a Fire a couple of years ago). The older Kindle still works great, and my husband is more than satisfied. $$$ saved!

Thanks for the giveaway! One of our daughters goes to school in MA, and would love it if I won a Dunkin's card!

  9. I know $80 is a drop in the bucket vis-a-vis your property tax, but when you consider it by itself, it's not bad!
Thanks for hosting this giveaway. I love DD and have a nearby store.

  10. I received a test drive from Chevrolet. I went to my dealer, told them I'm not in the market now for a new car, and they filled out my info for a $50 MasterCard! It'll go in my Christmas fund.

  11. I have used every leftover in our home in the past week. Little bits of onion, getting soft celery, leftover spaghetti, etc. Waste not, want not!

My son was in Tokyo the end of June and beginning of July. They did Disney there after doing Disney in China and Hong Kong. This 3 and /12 week trip was a trip of a lifetime and they loved every minute of it.

  12. Kicked Comcast to the curb when they raised our bill 65.00. I didn't even wait to hear them try to "retain" me. If you wanted my business you should've called me to keep it before the increase or better not not increased it.

  13. I shopped online for the best back-to-school deals and saved about $20!

One frugal thing: buying paint at Home Depot with a $10 rebate and having my husband paint.

  16. Today, I went to the beach with my children. I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old
daughter and said "You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear." She put the shell to
her ear and screamed. There was a hermit crab inside and it pinched her ear.

She never wants to go back! LoL I know this is entirely off topic but I had to tell someone!
