I'm back + all the jetlag

It's been a whirlwind over the last ten days or so. We flew to San Diego last Friday, and attended a wedding for one of M's family members. It was so much fun for the boys to get to meet lots of family members, participate in a traditional Persian wedding, & it was just a gorgeous event. We all had a great time.

I flew from San Diego to Denver, then on to London. Normally I get a direct flight from SFO, but San Diego didn't have any options that fit my work policies. So, Sunday was quite a long travel day. I don't recommend it as a Mother's Day plan. :-)

I don't sleep for any period of time on flights (even with business class/reclined seats), so no sleep at all on Sunday. I got to the hotel on Monday afternoon, ordered room service, binge watched Bridgerton (a month of Netflix was my Mother's Day request, knowing I'd use it when I traveled) went to the gym, and then slept for 12 hours. Lots of office time, team dinners, & it was so lovely to see the team again, after 2+ years.

I flew back on Friday, and slept for maybe an hour, so another night without sleep. The lack of sleep definitely adds up in unhelpful ways. I managed to complete my Global Entry renewal interview as I came through customs at the airport, so at least that task has now been completed, and my next international trip return will go a bit faster.

I did all of the mom errands yesterday (birthday party, soccer game, reffing game, helping Sam with job forms, etc) & today is taking Sam to his summer job training, Nick to a tennis match, and more tennis. I've managed to unpack, and do all of my laundry. But, I feel so far behind.

Next week will be a very long week, as I attempt to catch up on sleep & readjust myself to the right timezone, all whilst in the middle of my life.

And now, for a limited time, a picture from the wedding, which was such a family highlight! <Photo now removed.>

What about you? What have you been up to this week?

  1. What a whirlwind! I love sleeping on flights; but that is very draining to be up for so long. Love the family picture.

    1. Oh, it's so hard to not sleep. I wish I was a good sleeper on planes, but it just doesn't happen for me!

  2. Thank you for the wonderful photo (if only for a moment
). What a beautiful family—and you look gorgeous! Happy the trip was a success on all fronts and you’re home again.

  3. What a lovely picture!
This week was busy and I am crashing this weekend; not tired, but no motivation to do much. It was a busy week with work + lots of adventuring with the kids/hubby, and we're prepping for a trip which requires a negative antigen test, but only 24 hours before...so it's very hard to plan with that uncertainty and COVID cases are quite high where we live.
Mostly I'm aiming to get through the next 10 days without COVID and the rest should work itself out? I just feeling like a "sitting duck."

    1. I was pretty paranoid going into the stretch ahead, knowing I had to test negative. But, then we went to a family wedding, I took an international flight, and was in a crowded city where no one was wearing a mask, and I knew it was just a huge roll of the dice. I feel so lucky that I tested negative, and could re-enter the country. I also feel super lucky that I was able to get my second booster recently, which I'm sure was a huge help.

  4. What a wonderful photograph! Thank you for posting it. You have two impressive sons of whom you can be proud. The elder must resemble your husband, the younger looks like you! Roderick

    1. Thank you! It was so much fun to take the boys to a wedding, and get a chance to expose them to M's family & culture. And yes, I need all of the sleep this week!

    1. Oh, thank you! It was such a nice weekend with the boys, and they were such gentleman at the wedding. I was very happy they posed for a million pictures with all of M's family, and graciously handled all of the attention. They enjoyed dressing up, but the dancing...less so ;-)

  8. I'm so exhausted reading! The wedding sounds beautiful- as is your picture with your two boys. They are so handsome. I'm glad to hear future travel overseas will be a little smoother, but I'm not surprised you slept so long.

    1. It was a LONG week. I managed to work out every day, which is a new work trip record, and I do think that helped my jet lag. But, I'm definitely exhausted & need a chance to catch up on my sleep. Hopefully there's more good sleep ahead!

  9. I don't know how you do it all. I don't sleep on international flights either, but never suffer from jet lag when I reach my destination. So weird. Beautiful family pic. You haven't changed one bit. I remember you posted pics of yourself years ago (yep, I've been following your blog for a long time).

    1. I'm very envious that you don't get terrible jet lag. One of my coworkers is like that, and I am always very jealous of the fact that he rebounds so quickly & is adjusted.

Thank you for the kind words. I feel like I look quite a bit older, so that's very sweet to hear.

  10. I hope you get a chance to rest & recover tomorrow! This is definitely the first time my boys have dressed up, and they consider jeans "dressed up". It was a huge departure for them, and they managed to embrace it, after I spent hours trying to find suitable clothes. They are tall & thin, and getting suits that would work required a lot of effort. Not to mention shoes! They, of course, have no suitable shoes, and I ordered Nick a pair, and Sam wore a pair of M's that would work.

Here's hoping your son chooses the dress up option!

  11. You are gorgeous, and those boys are beautiful. And I was exhausted reading this post. How do you manage? I'm in awe. Here's to a calmer week.

    1. Thank you!
I think you just get used to the chaos? My first international work trip almost broke me, and then I got used to it. It was really hard again, mostly because it's been two years, and I'm just not in the place to do it again. I'm always so mystified by people who enjoy one week international trips. Not enough time to adjust to the jet lag!

  12. Welcome back! I don't know how you're still conscious after so many nights without sleep ;)

I am on a massive clear-out binge of boxing up baby things that the kids have outgrown to gift to friends who are expecting and for donations.

    1. I love big clear outs! I find that the not sleeping actually forces you to adjust to the time zone you are in faster, (both when I arrive & depart), but it comes at a big cost of missing two full nights of sleep, which is miserable.

  14. You are gorgeous, as are your two boys!

Add me to the long list that does not know how you do what you do, but what I am sure about is that you are setting wonderful examples for your boys in ways you likely aren't even aware of. Kudos, mom!
