Weekend Happenings

I've been in a bit of a funk, so I'm hoping that the long weekend is just the ticket to getting out of said funk. It's a nice combo of mostly mellow, with a few activities.

Here's what's on the agenda for today:

  • Take the boys & two friends to lunch, & bowling
  • Make orange muffins. I have a giant bowl of oranges, courtesy of our neighbor's tree. She likes us to pick them, and if we don't the oranges fall in our pool & make a mess. It's a lot of oranges!
  • Laundry
  • Start packing/list for trip to Hawaii next week
  • Store
  • Menu
  • Costco
  • Trader Joes
  • Make Rice Krispy treats for the boys
  • (With the boys), go through all of the shoes in the garage, figure out what's been outgrown, and determine what needs replacing. I noticed multiple pair of shoes with holes on the bottom & sides...
  • Dinner out with M
The weather is supposed to be a lovely 73, which is a nice change from the 90+ days we had earlier in the week. What about you? What are you up to today?

  1. I walked at the river park, bought local peaches and strawberries at the farmer’s market, and bought handmade beef franks for later. I had already made potato salad and coleslaw, and bought a small cookie cake, so I think we will enjoy the food at home. Rice Krispie treats sound so delicious! Cindy in the South

    1. Everything you've described sound fabulous - LOVE potato salad, & jealous of your local peaches.

  2. I think you meant to write "oranges," not "muffins." And, given that your weekend agenda includes Rice Krispy treats and shoes in the garage, what will you find to do when the the boys pass their driving tests and go off to college? Roderick

    1. Yes, that was a typo. I'm sure I'll adjust, just like all parents before me have.

    1. It's mostly been the news, but yes, adjusting to working in the office again, combined with the boys finals has been a lot going on!

  6. Soccer and more soccer. By circumstance both days this weekend and next weekend are tournaments - one hour away - with at least 3 games plus we still have the regular weekly 2 practices and one league game during weekdays and 4 more weeks of school... I only just started up my plants on the deck with tomatoes and herbs, will need to buy a few more when (if!) I get a chance. Soccer is a lot right now but a lot more enjoyable this year. A. Is a player most times and a back-up goalie sometimes, he feels less pressure than being the main goalie, and is bonding better with this team. We are also able to carpool with another very nice family.
On oranges: Kristen, The frugal girl has an orange julius recipe that I would like to try out.

    1. We have had so many weekends like that! Very glad to hear that it's more enjoyable this season. Nick played goalie for years, and it's really a stressful role. At a game a few weeks ago, the goalie was fouled, & unresponsive on the field. He had to have surgery on his skull (a small piece was chipped). It was terrifying for everyone, & has really made us all more concerned about the kids & the physical contact.

Bonus that you have a great carpool!

  7. I went to a Grilled Cheese Festival. Then, I just wore myself out and took a nap.

  8. How about making orange marmalade in your abundant free time? 😆

But, in all seriousness, a friend just gave me a jar of homemade orange marmalade and it was delicious!

    1. I don't know that I've ever had homemade marmalade, but I'm sort of neutral on it, from the store purchased side. We have some in the fridge, because we use it in an orange chicken recipe.
