July Goals

Before I dive into the goals, I wanted to focus for a minute on the unexpected call I received last week while on vacation. A family member (an uncle) is in dire straits, and needs a job immediately. The only position he could find is over a two hour drive (each way) from his house, but is near our home. He asked if he could stay with us for a bit as he figures things out.

I must confess, I'm not a "houseguest" person. My in-laws stay with us for three months at a time, and they are totally amazing and helpful. But, having houseguests makes it very difficult for me to stick to my routine, and I find it hard to relax when I know there are other people around. I try to use the treadmill at 5:00 am, which is right next to our spare room, so that's out. I tend to do yoga at 8:00 pm, but that's not the kind of thing you do in front of guests. ;-)

All this said, I truly believe in helping those who need help. My uncle is a fantastic guy, and my boys are thrilled to have him around. :-)

Now, onto my July goals.

  1. Find and register for a race. It doesn't need to be a marathon - just something small to get me going again.
  2. Make $250 on eBay.
  3. Update resume.
  4. Update LinkedIn profile.
  5. Stick to budget on two upcoming trips (big girls trip in three weeks, and overnight stay at a water park).
  6. Deal with houseguest graciously, & look for opportunities to turn it into a "win"
  7. Reduce grocery bill to $550.
  8. Fitness goals:
    1. 1100 minutes of cardio
    2. 12 strength workouts
    3. 10 stretching workouts.
  9. Clean & inventory freezers
  10. Schedule a dentist appointment - I'm WAY overdue! :-)
I think that will keep me busy! How about you? What's on your list of July goals?

  2. Yes, it is a good thing, but I am right with you on the routine changing. My mother lived with us for almost a year and it never did get comfortable.

You are inspiring me to get my goals in order even though I cannot start until the 8th!

    1. I'm so Type A! I know it's me who gets all spun up, so I try to remember that & stay calm when things are out of my hands.

Get your goals together - it gives shape to all of the things you do each day.

  3. I think that's really awesome of you to provide him that option. Having been a houseguest several times, it is a bit awkward for both sides, but if you're comfortable with the people, then it can be like a very, very long sleepover (though probably not for yoga). Hope the arrangement can be short and that he finds a closer job.

  4. Great list of goals, and I think helping out your uncle is the right thing to do. Yes, sometimes it "interferes" with "our" life & plans, but some things are just more important in the greater scheme of life. :)

I posted my goals just now... nothing "over the top", but hopefully I do better this month than I did last month!

    1. I don't think he's sure yet. He's kind of feeling out the job to determine if it's a good long-term fit, and solid enough employment before he makes that decision, which is why it's helpful to have a temporary place to stay & answer some of his questions.
