Saturday Happenings

I had an incredibly productive day yesterday, as I scrambled to get all of my work wrapped up, try on conservative office attire, get packed, work out, & plan logistics for next week. I also was able to get much of the coordination done for my pre-birthday friends trip to Las Vegas, which needed to happen, so the reservations can get booked. We are going on Halloween weekend to see a concert, and that's a busy time there & we need to lock in the hotel & dining.

We also had a neighbor who inadvertently received a large delivery of frozen food, but was out of town. She called for help, so M & I brought the package to our house & quickly determined that there was zero chance everything was fitting in our freezer. We then went over to our elderly neighbor, and she was able to make freezer space. While we were there, we helped her with a couple of chores that she couldn't do. Initial neighbor was thrilled, food was saved, elderly neighbor had a few bonus chores done. It was a bit of a time hit, but nice to help people.

Nick was at the Boulder game. While they didn't win, it does appear good times were had by all ;-)

As for today, here's what's on my plan:
  • 5  mile run
  • Last minute packing
  • Laundry
  • Pick up the house
  • Ask M to take me to the airport for my flight

I'm unenthusiastic for the time at the airport, followed by a long flight, and then... the commute from the airport to the city. I've previously flown into Haneda airport, which is so much closer to the city. This time, I need to fly into Narita, which necessitates a 2+ hour bus or train ride. After the very long travel day, that's the last thing you would want. Hopefully things go smoothly, and I will be in my hotel by 8 pm, JST.

What are you up to today?

  3. That's sweet that you could help both neighbors! I hope all goes well with your travels. I just realized a high school classmate of mine has a daughter that just started at Boulder this year!

  4. Well I absolutely loathe flying, will
only fly to see relatives, so that trip alone would do me in. Virtual hugs! That sounds absolutely terrible!!! Hopefully you will get a good night’s sleep afterwards and a decent meal. Cindy in the South

  5. I hope your travel was uneventful and smooth!

I've been trying my best to just keep the barest essentials going lately. I cannot wait to be clear of this latest flare-up, it's the longest one I've been stuck in for a while.

If you have time when you get back, could you share how you manage money in Japan (getting cash, how to manage internet access, etc)? I'm trying to wrap my head around international travel again (someday) and I'd love to hear some thoughts from someone who is generally frugal where possible.
