Saturday Happenings

One of my goals this weekend is to "catch up" a bit on life, after being out of town last weekend. I had a fantastic girls weekend, but need to get back to my routine now. I've looked ahead at the work week ahead, and it appears to be much calmer than the past 6-8 weeks, which sounds fabulous to me!

I have my first international work trip scheduled for May, which was a good reminder that I do not want a job with international travel, and should come up with my exit strategy. I'm very close! COVID & working from home gave me a really fantastic break from the international work travel, & allowed me to extend my time at the company for a couple of years.

Here's what's on the agenda for today:

  • Make 3 batches of muffins. The freezer is empty, and they are a staple.
  • Take Nick to two reffing games, & pick him up
  • Take Sam to a soccer game (walk during warm ups)
  • Menu plan
  • Grocery store
  • Costco
  • Work out
  • Laundry/wash Nick's ref uniform for tomorrow
  • Tacos for dinner
  • Have the boys try on suits I bought for upcoming wedding
  • Nick's tennis
  • Take Sam to/from a birthday party
  • Motivate lazy teens to do chores & homework
I think that will be plenty of running around for me. :-) What about you? What are you up to today?

  3. Your Saturday look pretty full. I do remember all those days of running around and carting kids to various activities. That alone takes a big bite out of the day!

  4. Speaking of your exit strategy, I seem to recall thinking you'd be all wrapped up at your job this or last summer. Did I remember that incorrectly?

We're starting to add some lessons for JB to the schedule and it's a big time for transitions for us coming into Spring and Summer. Feeling very overwhelmed by it all.

    1. I've had so many timelines & plans to leave & have failed to pull the trigger. I opted to work through all of our work from home time, because it was so much easier logistically without the commute, & no international travel. Now that the travel is back, I really need to get it together & stop letting fear hold me back.

I can theoretically leave whenever (financially would be fine), but I have a savings goal I can achieve if I stay until January. It puts us well into the comfortable/minimal lifestyle disruption, even with me not working.

    2. Plan your retirement
My husband just retired at 62
      Lots of plans
Then diagnosed with Stage IV Prostate cancer
Life is short - go live it

    3. I'm so sorry to hear about your husband, Siobhan. Sending lots of good thoughts your way for a full recovery & lots of time together to enjoy all of those plans.

  5. You have lots of plans for today. Me, well I took it easy, worked on a couple of projects, and did a few household chores.

    God bless.

  6. Just to remind you of what lies on the other side of working (as in not working 😊 ), all of my chores are done during the week, so my Saturday started out with sailing lessons, followed by a nap, shower and reading, then pre-dinner cocktails, dinner out, and a pops concert with our local symphony backing 70's icon Boz Scaggs.

In all seriousness, there is so much out there to discover and explore once you have the luxury of more time, I think it will amaze you. I've been retired for 12 years (I left the workforce in my late 40's), and I still continue to discover new things almost weekly. If you apply the same energy to this next chapter of life as you did your career, you will have nothing to fear, though it can take some time to work through the transition, mentally. It took a good year andd a half in my case, about five minutes for my husband. LOL

    1. Oh, I love hearing about the "other side" and thinking ahead. It's so lovely to envision. I also love this fleeting time with the kids, so try not to wish it away, even though I won't miss all of the driving! :-)

I do have that apprehension of "will I be bored". I know I won't, but I'm also expecting there to be a real transition for me. My husband has no plans to retire, but we'll see, as he ages.

  7. You juggle so much! As for me, I will do some prep work for Monday. Put away the laundry, tidy up the kitchen (an everyday occurence) and put away some things that are cluttering my home right now and hopefully exercise.

    1. I always feel like prepping for the week ahead is the best thing I do on the weekends. It gets me started out feeling like I'm in control of the week & everything it will throw at me!

  8. I worked all day in my Mom’s Ed room. Decluttering, cleaning, and moving furniture. It looks better now and should help any health care workers that come to help her.

Sounds like you had a busy schedule for Saturday. I had some ripe bananas I put in the freezer. I need to make some banana muffins with those soon.

    1. Another option for your frozen bananas is smoothies. We defrost ours slightly (20-30 seconds in the microwave) & then mix with a liquid (juice, almond milk, protein powder & water, whatever you have) & frozen fruit. It's delicious & healthy.
