What a weekend!

Sam's team won first place in their state cup division! (Pretend like you can see the amazing photo I have of both boys holding the big cup, with the most excited smiles of all time). Nick was subbing for Sam's team, so both of my boys were playing & it was such a fun & exciting game to watch. They won 2-1, so a very close match. They are still dancing with excitement about the big victory. ;-)

We also had some frugal moments (bringing our own lunch yesterday to the tournament), & then some very non-frugal moments. We wanted to celebrate our bonuses/raises on Friday night, and tried to order delivery Thai. Lots of issues & failures with that (sigh. technology :0), so we ended up going out, which was much more expensive. As a result of the failure of our initial order, Amazon sent me a credit to try them out again the next night. So, we really did takeout on Saturday night.

Anyway, lots of expensive this week!

  • Monday - 12/5 - No spend day
  • Tuesday - 12/6
    • $47 - Christmas gifts
    • $332.40 - flights for my parents to watch the boys in April, over spring break
  • Wednesday - 12/7 - No spend day
  • Thursday - 12/8
    • $15 for a tip for a massage. I got the massage as a gift from work, so the rest was covered.
  • Friday - 12/9
    • $127.62 - Bonus dinner celebration with wine (for 3 - Nick was at a soccer game)
    • $45 - Target gift cards for two kids birthdays. We'll reserve the other gift card for a future gift, but they sell them in three packs at Rite Aid, which is the closest store to me. :-)
    • $4.76 - snack baggies
    • $15 - some sort of tool from Costco, that M needed. Not sure.
  • Saturday - 12/10
    • $8.98 - Lucky for yeast, mayo & candied fruit for my bread I'm making for the holidays
    • $106.82 - groceries at Costco
    • $31.54 - dinner delivery. Will make two full dinners + a bonus lunch for Sam
    • $185 - a hair cut & color for me. I go 2-3x/year, but it's expensive!
    • $50 - ski goggles for two kids
    • $11.75 - toilet paper from Costco
  • Sunday - 12/11
    • $13.64 - Christmas baking supplies at Lucky
Total spent = $994.51. What about you? How was your weekly spending? Any big splurges or frugal victories?

  1. I worked a lot this week and really did not go out a lot. 10 bucks for an early morning Nutcracker performance. (Special performance for school kids, and this year they included special needs adults. The group I volunteer with went and invited me to go.) Sunday school Christmas party at a restaurant where everyone paid for their own meal. Nice thing was we had a private room. Bad thing? It took 3 hours for everyone to get served. Really bad thing 125 bucks for dinner that took forever to get to the table.

  2. It's a little embarrassing that I'm struggling to remember our expenses because lots of them are automated or large bills. Or maybe it's just Monday.

The rental expenses don't count since that's not personal spending, but I did negotiate a $300 cash discount on PiC's medical care coming up. That's a bit of a frugal victory but not a huge one. We forgot to go grocery shopping so that's kind of a frugal thing totally unintentionally :)

  3. It was a very expensive weekend with lots of eating out (away without a kitchen, so expensive to rent anything with a kitchen in Edmonton, almost twice the hotel cost) around $300 but a planned saved for expense. Got a big rock chip in our rental vehicle which may or may not cost us $200 (our deductible as we insure rentals through our auto insurance), they will be telling us in a couple weeks. If they can fill it Alamo will not charge us, if the windshield has to be replaced we are on the hook for the deductible. Cab from the airport $20 which was unexpected but since we got so much snow Mom could not get her car out until after we assisted her. Happy to be home, things should be much cheaper now for the rest of the month except for groceries, booze and some baking supplies :) Only one small gift left to purchase

    1. It's so, so hard to stay on track when you are traveling! Enjoy your holidays now that you are back. I love snuggling up, getting cozy & knowing I don't have to go anywhere.

  4. I meant to also say congrats to your boys, I know there is a lot of expense associated with their sport, but you can afford it and they will remember this weekend for the rest of their lives. So glad they both got to play in the game. Sports gives kids both discipline and good health and is a fabulous skill to call upon later in life :)

    1. Thank you! My all time favorite picture of them is the one right after the tournament. They are a little muddy, and they are just all lit up. You are right - I have no belief these guys will be even college athletes. I think sports are important for discipline, teamwork, learning to win & lose gracefully, and of course, for their health.

  5. Another exciting soccer win! Congrats!

I am terrible at tracking my spending. I gave up on December late last week. Maybe January?

    1. Thanks! It's been a wild & crazy soccer season. Lots of great moments, but so much work this season.

Yes, start fresh in January - you can do it! Plus, you now have that huge bonus to spend. ;-)

    1. I'm usually so organized with the menu planning. I'm off my game for sure the past few weeks due to the craziness of my work.

  7. Congrats to the boys and I can see them in my head. You stay so organized with your spending patterns. Even if a high week, you at least can account for the cash flow.
