Garden kindness

As I mentioned yesterday, I'm working on acts of kindness, as a way to contribute positively back into the world during these crazy days. Please do share what you are doing, as it can be both hard to think of COVID friendly ideas, and you are all just a creative bunch!

Yesterday, I looked in my garden & saw that my herbs were getting minimal use (mint, basil & parsley) & put out a call in my small neighborhood mailing list to see if anyone wanted anything. We don't have a kitchen right now, and fresh herbs are so lovely & sad to see wasted. In an hour, I had 15 people interested! I cut back all of our plants, bagged everything, & left them out on our porch for a contactless pickup for our neighbors.

I received so many positive emails & it was nice to connect with people who live nearby. I hope to also encourage others to share, as many neighbors put citrus fruit out with "free" signs.

I've loved reading what you are all doing, and will put my creative thinking hat on for ideas for today!

Thanks for all of the ideas, and please do keep sharing.

  2. Nice act! I am still trying to think of ways to be kind, yet distanced.

    1. Preview for tomorrow - I'm thinking of writing a nice letter to someone, which might be a good option in the socially distanced world.

  3. I love that! I guess my only act of kindness, but should be norm, was reassuring a new mom co-worker that will be ending her family leave in a few weeks, that anything she requests to help support coming back to work status is not Low Priroity, as she has labled a few e-mails.

    1. That's great that you are able to help her onboard again. And, sometimes it's nice to have the reminder for kindness to inspire us to do all of the things we want to do always, but sometimes lose track of in the day to day shuffle.

  4. A group of us put together a surprise gift for a teacher friend who has been coming under a lot of fire unfairly from parents who are angry about the school situation and just yelling at her because she's there. Such ugly behavior. We hope she gets some joy from her gift.

    1. such a hard time right now for educators. My friend is a principal, and is going through a ton of turmoil right now. Love the idea of something special for her. Thank you!

  5. I am continuing to feel inspired, so thank you! 1) Overpaid my painter yesterday after he worked doggedly to refinish my fireplace, staying here until 8pm to finish the job as he'd promised. (Pretty sure he underestimated the effort involved), and 2) Made fig jam as a Thank you gift to a neighbor that dropped off a bag of ripe figs from her garden earlier in the week.

    1. Such awesome things! We've been overpaying our contractors similarly for additional effort - it's so appreciated & they have been really respectful & easy to work with. Fig jam sounds delish!
