Thoughts on Unity

Regardless of political affiliation, I hope we can all agree that a turn towards unity in the country and all of us working together to solve hard problems will benefit us. A president who can bring groups of people together will serve us well. A president who will govern all with respect & compassion, even those are different from him, or didn't vote for/support him. I'm looking forward to a change of rhetoric, both from the president and others. A focus on kindness, compassion, empathy & unification. I will continue to strive to learn from others who have different beliefs from me, and to be open to their perspective. There are hard problems ahead, with COVID & climate change & bringing a divided country back together. I will endeavor to be part of the solution, not part of the problem.

And with that, it's Sunday. What a week. I got significantly less done than usual, but I'm okay with that. Sometimes you just "get through" a week, and this week was one of those. The weather has changed here, and it's very cool. We used the heat for the first time today, when the house dropped to 61 degrees. I have my own threshold, and we were under it! :-)

For the rest of the day, what do we have going on?

  • A work out. I walked yesterday, and (from a distance) saw neighbors & enjoyed the beautiful weather
  • Vacuum
  • Clean the very messy kitchen. Nick cooked yesterday ;-)
  • Laundry. So much laundry!
  • I'm trying a new recipe
  • I'll work on my holiday crocheting project. I'm a newbie crocheter, so I'm hoping to practice on this particular project, and then move on to something "real" for the holidays
  • Due some organization around the house. Things have gotten messy lately, as they do when we're all working & schooling from home!
What about you? What are you up to today?

  1. I'm practicing self care today and hoping for a peaceful day. I'm all for unity in this country too, it's a nice change of rhetoric like you said.

  2. Like you, I want to be part of the solution rather than the problem.
I heard via our neighborhood FB page that there is a break in a water main near our neighborhood. A team is supposed to be on the way to repair it and we might be out of water for a protracted amount of time. I thought it might be a great time to do laundry and run the dishwater while I have it. Not what I wanted to do today, but it is a necessity.

    1. Oh no! Hope you are able to get your chores done quickly, and also that they are able to quickly fix the break.

  3. Negative Covi test aside, I'm feeling the same-not quite well, so babying myself today a bit. I haven't slept well and have a stressful week ahead. I will get outside though and enjoy the weather.

  4. If ever there was a week to not be productive, this was certainly it.

I spent all day yesterday in a fog of elation, from the first call that Biden had won at around 8:30 AM PST, to watching the jubilation in the streets of DC and NYC throught the day, to listening to the brilliant speeches of both President and Vice President elect Biden and Harris, to FIVE hours of discussion with friends about what the election meant to us as a country, finally rolling in to bed after midnight.

This morning? I am sober, understanding that we have much, much work ahead if we wish to unite and become a kinder, gentler nation, and that doing so will mean compromise on both sides of the aisle, not just one.

And now, off to walk at the beach in order to celebrate the lifting of dark clouds, both literally and figuratively!

    1. I experienced many of these feelings yesterday. My text groups were very active, and lots of sharing of info and excitement. And today, like you, hoping we can come together & work on solutions, in partnership.

Enjoy the walk on the beach!

  5. I agree! Enough of the rhetoric. Times are stressful enough with COVID and anything else. I, too, will endeavor to be part of the solution. Not contribute to the problem.

    1. These are stressful times, and we can so much more if we are working together & supporting each other.

  6. I love "I will endeavor to be part of the solution, not part of the problem." and hope with all my being everyone in our country will think like this and come together again. It's going to be a battle but Biden is the perfect man to put it in motion.

Cooking, a little cleaning, and gardening here today. Oh and keeping watch on the tropical storm heading towards us here in Florida.

    1. Sending you good thoughts on the tropical storm, Martha! Gardening & cooking sound great - the cleaning, less so. ;-) But, productivity is always a win. Investing in your future self, I like to call it.
