Garden happenings & other things

We've had problems with squirrels & crows eating everything they can reach, but the garden is in full swing. The peppers, in particular, are loving the sun.

We've also got cantaloupe, watermelon & pomegranate, which is exciting!

I've been struggling a bit with my health (some flare ups of my chronic auto immune disease), and have had a few appointments & more to come. Hoping the doctors will be able to help me with my energy level & overall health soon. With the increase in COVID again, now is not the time to be struggling with auto immune issues.

M & I had a relaxing & wonderful time last weekend, exploring the southern California coast. So many great places to visit!

Please share what's happening in your garden, or in your life otherwise. I'd love to hear from you.

  1. Happenings in your garden are very exciting! I'm so sorry to hear you are struggling with your health. I sure hope the docs will be able to help you out. My daughter has some very serious auto immune issues so I can totally relate!

    1. The garden is definitely making me happy. Oh yes, the auto immune stuff is so very tricky. I think with most of them, but definitely in my case, it's so hard to figure out what's causing which issue, how to solve, and generally just untangling all of the complications to find the best treatment.

I hope your daughter is staying healthy!

  2. Soccer is back! That is so exciting. And yes, I'm constantly upgrading the sizing on our uniform shorts, because... the kids are tall! So wonderful that you were able to meet up with a friend. It's just such a great experience to have that connection again.

  3. Your garden looks great! I am just raising hummingbirds since the chipmunks and squirrels love what I raise. When I started taking vitamin D3, 100,000 IU twice a week, things improved for my autoimmune diseases. Good luck with yours.

    1. The squirrels are eating at least 2/3 of our tomatoes & driving me bananas as well

  4. We are fighting a loosing battle with the rabbits this year. They are taking all the squash and zucchini they want and leaving nibbled bits for us. I am harvesting about a pound of green beans each day now, and getting banana peppers, bell peppers and cayenne peppers (about 3 each day) The tomatoes are suffering from the excessive rain, but evidently. the okra is liking it. It is just starting to produce and the plants are too high for the rabbits.

    1. The good news is that none of the critters like the peppers! They leave those behind. The squirrels eat bites out of the tomatoes, and just leave them on the plant, or all over the garden bed. It's bad enough that they eat the tomatoes, but then they leave a mess behind. Grrrr.

  5. We have an invasion of a stink bug that is decimating all of our squash. We are having a really hard time this season with pests. It is all in learning to garden in a new place. I am sorry you are struggling. When you have an auto immune disorder it is always something. The RA I have is rare and is much closer to lupus than it is to RA, so it is a bugger. I hope you can get answers and a medication that works well for you.

    1. We're having a massive squirrel problem, which is being attributed to the drought. I'm sorry to hear that your RA is similar to lupus - neither are fun at all!

  6. We don't have a long enough growing season for many of the delicious things you mentioned. Our raised garden beds have tomatoes, cucumbers, strawberries, peppers, onions, carrots and radishes. We put a netting over the strawberries to eliminate the buffet breakfast for the birds

    1. Our cucumbers are just starting to take off. We've put netting on the raised beds, but it's hard to secure, as the plants are now over our heads (the raised bed adding additional height + super tall plants)
