A few things

It was a day of random tasks today, but I did manage to get a few things done:

  • A few walks
  • A few chores (sweeping + cleaning & setting out our last two patio chairs)
  • A 30 minute HIIT workout
  • Plenty of work
  • Meditation
  • Listed an item on eBay
  • Journaled
I'm looking forward to tomorrow & Friday, where I have significantly fewer meetings. I try to journal every day these days, and come up with three things I'm grateful for. I'll try to remember to share them here as well, as we can all use more positive news:

Today I'm grateful for:
  • Fresh squeezed lemon juice to add to my water
  • Baked oatmeal, for a quick & easy breakfast
  • Nice walking weather
  • Time to play rummy with my husband (during what used to be our commute time)
That's it for me. What about you? What are you grateful for these days? Are you ready for May?! I can't believe April is almost over.

  5. I was a bit surprised to realize that April was ending today.
I am really grateful for our yard--I might not like this new house's floorplan as much as my old, but I simply love our property. I spent the better part of yesterday afternoon, into the evening, working outside in my flower beds and vegetable garden. I am also grateful for my youngest's work ethic. Mandatory remote work rolled out on Monday, and he decided, rather than do work for each class every day, he would take a day to work on one subject. He was halfway finished with the entire week's work by lunchtime on Tuesday, and took yesterday off entirely. He's getting ready to get back at it now, predicting that by lunchtime, he'll be free for the rest of the week.

    1. We bought a house that wasn't at the top of my list, but has one feature I absolutely adore - a gorgeous back patio with a pool. We didn't want a pool, but this house makes it look/feel like a hotel. I can sit back here & work & briefly escape reality. So glad you have a nice property - the opportunity to work outside does make everything more enjoyable.

Can I ask how old your youngest is? Both of my kids (13 & 14) are struggling with time management during the WFH. I think maybe that's natural, given all of the varied schedules & ever changing requirements, but am not sure what normal looks like these days

    2. My youngest just turned 15, and is a freshman. Of my half dozen, he has been the most compliant/studious. I am one of many kids as well, and some of us fared better with time management than others in college, but while in middle and high school, we all seemed to be able to pull it together and do quite well with little stress that I remember, so I don't know why I struggle so with some of my kids. I think a big part of the issue with this group of high schoolers, at least in our district, is that they really don't know what study skills look like. Of course, that speaks to a problem in the schools long before high school, doesn't it?
As far as my youngest goes, I think he really understands the concept of his time being his own once his work is finished to his satisfaction. He hates to have things looming over him.
