Saturday things

I took yesterday off, and it was such a nice treat. I met a friend for a two hour hike, got a massage (I'm so sore!) & had a long call with my mom. M & I had an unexpected dinner alone (Nick was at the football game, Sam was at a friend's house), so he even lit candles at dinner. :-) We had a very casual dinner of chicken wings & spring rolls. Both with different sauces. It was easy & delicious.

I also picked a bunch of mint for drying (M uses mint in a yogurt sauce he makes) & packaged an eBay sale. I read my book by the pool, & enjoyed the time off very much.

As for today, it's the normal array of things:

  • Taking Nick to/from a couple of reffing jobs for soccer
  • Going for a run
  • Taking Sam to a game in the afternoon. M will pick him up from there, & take him to a second game (he's subbing for another team) in the city. I don't like to drive in the city or at night, so M will be the driver for this one.
  • Drop Nick off/pick up after at a birthday party.
  • Pick up apples from a friend (from her tree) & drop off zucchini for her
  • Dry the mint
  • Make egg roll in a bowl
  • Laundry (my constant companion)
  • Clean the fridge
  • List 5 items on Buy Nothing. This has been on my to do list forever. Really going to try & make it happen!
That's it for us. Nick had a great time at the football game last night, but got home really late (10:30), when we were already in bed. Apparently, we're too old to be parenting high schoolers. ;-)

What about you? What are you up to today?

  1. I think a tiny ray of light with Covid is the extra efforts to meet friends, and it is doing things like walking or hiking, and other things to be outside.I'm lazying her eonline getting caught up on blogs, but finishing the last of the laundry and just cleaned up the kitchen after making a massive salad to bring to my brothers party along with the sloppy Joes I made yesterday.

    1. It's been really fun meeting friends for walks & hikes. We make it a regular thing. Going out for drinks/lunch/brunch is more rare, but working out together is a staple for all of my friends, which I love. Free & good for us.

  2. I don't know if this is helpful to you as your teens move on to later evenings out, but what we did was set an alarm to the time the were expected home. If they came home earlier, they came into our room to let us know, and we'd then turn off the alarm. If they were late (!) the alarm would wake us, and we could then start worrying. I don't think the alarm ever actually went off, but it sure saved us from a lot of otherwise late nights.

Today should be nice- I spent the morning reading, plus making a quinoa salad for a sunset picnic at the beach with my husband. Between that and now, I'm heading to a big music festival to help man the table of the marine institution I volunteer for. Pearl Jam and Brenda Carlisle will be performing, and I should have views of both from where I'll be.

    1. This is a great idea, and my parents did something similar. Thanks for the reminder!

Oooh, I love Pearl Jam! Very jealous of your plans for today. Everything sounds wonderful.

  3. I had a lovely hour walk in my neighborhood at my weekend house, bought my prepaid straighttalk oh card for the month at Walmart, picked up dog and cat food, Gatorade for one of kids. Texted with daughter and other three sons. Sitting on back porch, listening to bird, and reading a book! Will be making hamburgers for middle son tonight since big football game weekend here in the Deep South. Cindy in the South.

  4. Sounds like you had a very nice Friday. That’s great. I’ve been going to bed before Bailey for years, LOL

I hope you have a good Saturday.

    1. I definitely can't stay awake as long as the boys on a regular night, let alone the weekends!

  5. Took my usual morning walk, and then did a bit of household chores. Not much. Phoned my youngest brother as usual, and had a very laid back rest of the day.

    God bless.

  7. I am probably too old to parent a high schooler, either. Today, I painted a bird black, looked for fried onions at grocery, baked chicken for dinner and at least 3 other meals. hung up laundry--three outfits in the house, tidied up a few things out of place. Today was not a day that was hard or made a lot of progress on anything, but it was pleasant.

  8. This makes me seriously dread the high school years, we're still at the extreme other end of things 😅

We've had such a hard week with the virus (some kind of baby cold I think) and teething and fever, I spent most of Saturday trying to recover. And today too!
