Double vaccinations & feeling so grateful

California/my county announced the vaccine eligibility extension to the 12-15 year old group today while I was at a soccer tryout with Sam. Serendipitously, Sam's school announced a high school night at a local mass vaccination site.

We hustled out of tryouts, picked up Nick, & headed for the mass vaccination location. It took about 60 minutes from start to finish, and included a lot of walking. Unfortunately for those around us, Sam was just coming off of his 3rd tryout of the week, and I had just finished a 6 mile walk with a friend. We were both tired, and "fragrant". The longest part was the mandatory 15 minute wait, after the shots.

The second vaccine appointments are booked, and I am SO, so very thrilled that both boys have their first vaccine. I feel so lucky that we were able to quickly respond tonight, and get it done. Sam texted my parents, and let my mom know that he was getting vaccinated "for her". He's a sweet kid, most of the time. ;-)

The mass vaccination site had a DJ, prizes, & so many volunteers. I'm grateful for the volunteers, science & the availability of vaccines in my area. Hurrah!

  1. I got a bit emotional reading this. My granddaughters are still to young, but hopefully soon. Sam's text to his grandmother was precious. Congratulations to you all.

    1. I got teary while the boys were getting their shots (simultaneously, in side by side chairs). It was super cute & made me realize how big of a milestone it is for us. Fingers crossed that they are going to be able to extend to younger kids very soon.

    1. The kids were very happy, & clearly understand why it's an important step (for them, and for others), which we discussed on the way to the vaccine. Yes for progress!

  3. Great we are waiting for our local schools to do the same thing.

  4. I'm so happy for them and your family! That means mid-June or there about they are two weeks from dose 2-hopefully in time for your family's vacation and when you see your parents again.

    1. I just realized that I have to reschedule the second vaccine appointments, as Sam has a final (first time he's having in person school on a Wednesday, of course) & Nick has 8th grade graduation. Rebooking a second shot, I've discovered, is not for the faint of heart!

  5. Congratulations!!

What a huge relief that must be. Our two are still far too young to have anything available this early in the year so our relief is rather far off yet. I'm so grateful for all the people who are willing and able to get vaccinated.

    1. It really is a huge relief. I need to rebook the second appointment (Sam magically has in person school on a Wednesday for the first time in 15+ months, & Nick has 8th grade graduation). Rebooking that second appointment is quite a challenge. But, so grateful we're half way to vaccinated!
