Under contract and other things

We received a full price offer on our vacation house yesterday morning, and we are now under contract! This is a huge weight off of my chest. Knowing that the buyer is purchasing the house "turn key" ((almost) all items inside the house) also means that the work required to get it ready to sell is very limited!

We will empty out all of our clothing, personal items, food, alcohol, etc between my trip tomorrow & our last hurrah trip over the 4th of July. We will then have the house professionally cleaned, drive back to California & sign the papers to close.

In soccer news, Sam got offers from all three clubs he tried out with, and made his selection yesterday. He made a few really strong teams, and ended up going with the club that quite a few of his school friends play for. He also really liked that coach, so fingers crossed it's a good fit. The boys have their last soccer game this weekend, so the spring season is over in a hurry this year. It's a much shorter season due to COVID.

Sam also starts finals week next week....having a high schooler is quite an adventure, and this time of year is particularly stressful. We are all just trying to hang in there & stay calm. Keep calm & carry on. This time of the year can be particularly challenging for kids new to high school, and those who have learning/executive function delays. Keeping track of everything is quite hard, and the stress is showing. There are some moody teens in my house!

I'm off tomorrow to have a long weekend at the beach with my mom & sister. Our last mother/daughter trip at the beach house, so we will be sure to enjoy it.

Hope everyone is having a great week!

  1. Congrats! I hope all goes smoothly for you. Our buyer bailed but the nonrefundable deposit is a nice bonus. No doubt another buyer will come along soon. I hope all goes smoothly for your closing. Have a fantastic trip! :)

    1. Rats! That sucks about your buyer, but glad you were able to at least get the deposit out of it. Fingers crossed for a new buyer soon, and a quick & painless transaction.

  3. My company has also given extra days off (we have next Friday, to go along with Memorial Day) & it's such a wonderful gift to have the time to be with family & just decompress.

Hope you are out of lockdown soon, & the kids are able to play some soccer.

  4. Moody teens? Moody TEENS??? Teens get MOODY? The hell, you say!
Youngest and eldest are particularly hit with the changes this year, with eldest not even considering a return to school until classes resume fully in person, and youngest not being able to get to the brand new high school which should have opened in fall. Youngest was accepted in our state's dual enrollment, so he will be taking that option in September, hoping classes will be in person. He said if he has to do remote learning, he may as well get college credit. Daughter graduates in June, has been in dual enrollment for her Junior and Senior year, and isn't going away to college (she got accepted at, and an incredible scholarship/aid package at my alma mater) fearing she will only be sent home in winter should cases reemerge. She hasn't stepped foot in a classroom since February of 2020, and is so worn out with remote learning that she has accepted a nanny position for summer through Christmas, asking our permission to take a quarter off. While I appreciate my state's handling of the pandemic, it's been tough to see the toll its taken on my kids. GET VACCINATED, or STAY THE *#*# at home. And when all this is said and done, remember, WASH YOUR HANDS!

  8. Congrats on being under contract! We sell next week and buy one day later in a different state so it's been stressful. Here's hoping to a more relaxed summer! Cheers!

  9. I am sorry I've been MIA but I just read back all your May posts. After 12 wonderful years I am so happy that your vacation home paid off as an investment too, that is truly gratifying to have memories there plus the fact that it will get you that closer to paying off your primary home. Congratulations!!!!
